Quests › The Threads Between Worlds
The Threads Between Worlds
An ethereal in Ratchet has learned to separate what an object is from what it looks like. Help him finish the experiment and he will attune you to it: transmogrification, earned one character at a time.
What you are and what you appear to be need not be the same.
"Matter is merely energy persuaded to remain in a particular shape."
— The Warpweaver
What you earn
Transmogrification: the look of one piece of gear on another, with the stats left alone. On Draeqetha it is not a vendor you walk up to. The Warpweaver attunes each character himself, and only after they have helped him finish his research.
Your looks stay on the gear they are on. Changing or removing them, though, waits until that character has completed the chain. The Warpweaver is unmoved by prior acquaintance.
Level 20, both factions. Ratchet is neutral ground; the Barrens stops are reachable for either side.
The three-quest story
A fragment, a memory, and an observer.
An Echo of Form
A shipment of experimental arcane materials was lost along the coast north of Ratchet. Among the scattered cargo on the Merchant Coast lies an Unstable Nether Fragment, a crystal whose reflection moves a moment after it does. The Warpweaver wants it.
Reward: Experience, 15 silver, and the Warpweaver's grudging interest.
The Memory of Steel
A weapon carried through a hundred battles remembers them. Find the Weathered Blade of Forgotten Battles in an abandoned weapon cache among the ruins at Lushwater Oasis. Do not look for a magnificent sword; the steel is broken. Its memory is not.
Reward: Experience and 25 silver.
The Threads Between Worlds
The fragment shapes the illusion, the blade anchors it, and the experiment needs a living observer. Activate the Threads of Form Apparatus in his workshop and hold still. Any permanent alterations to your physical form would be entirely... unexpected.
Reward: Experience, 50 silver, and the Attunement of the Warpweaver: transmogrification, unlocked for that character.
Once attuned, the Warpweaver greets you as what you have become. He does not do warmth, but he does do curiosity.
"Ah, my accomplished apprentice. Your attunement remains stable. Shall we explore the possibilities of your appearance once more?"
Before you set sail
- Is this questline available to both factions?
- Yes. Any character of level 20 or above can start it. Ratchet is neutral, and both Barrens stops are reachable for either side.
- What is transmogrification on Draeqetha?
- Changing the look of a piece of gear to that of another item you hold, bags or bank included, without touching its stats. Same kind for same kind: a sword only takes a sword's look, mail only mail's. Green quality and up; hiding a slot is free.
- Is the unlock account-wide?
- No. Each character earns it by turning in the last quest, and keeps it for good.
- I transmogged before the chain existed. What happens to my looks?
- They stay on the gear they are on. Changing or removing them waits until that character has completed the chain.
- Where are the quest objects?
- The scattered cargo is at the waterline of the Merchant Coast, just north of Ratchet. The weapon cache lies among the ruins at Lushwater Oasis in the Barrens. The apparatus stands beside the Warpweaver in his workshop. Each only works for someone on its quest.
- Can bots use the Warpweaver?
- No. Playerbots cannot take the quests or use the service, and a bot's gear always shows its real look.
